Muriel Truter

Askari founder and principal Muriel Truter grew up in Zimbabwe. She has also lived in England, Israel, and Canada.
Over a lifetime of travel and a career in tourism, Muriel has journeyed extensively, personally visiting over 50 countries. What she has seen has made her even more curious than before; no small feat. Perhaps even more, it has made her want to share what she has seen—the privilege and joy of travel—with others.
Muriel’s career as a travel professional began at Butterfield & Robinson, a highly esteemed luxury active travel company based in Toronto. There, Muriel was a Bespoke Trip Planner, a guide, a researcher, and director of the By Sea program. Her duties saw her planning trips aboard glamorous private yachts in the Adriatic, sourcing last minute bull fight tickets in Quito, and organizing visits to see everyone from the glass blowers of Murano to traditional weavers in Ecuador. She designed cocktail parties atop Table Mountain, and sleepovers under the stars in the Kalahari.
As a guide, Muriel lead trips in Turkey, the Greek Islands, Montenegro, the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia and Venice, Belize, Guatamala, England, Ireland and many places in Africa and South America, including the Galapagos Islands. Touring the fairy chimneys of Cappadocia, sailing the Turquiose Coast on a gulet, traipsing through the Cotswolds, being held hostage by a herd of elephants in Botswana, hiking in Montenegro, canoeing down the Zambezi, witnessing a traditional burial in Bali, bicycling in Connamara, climbing Mayan ruin in Tikal and dancing until dawn on Hvar have all been in a days work.
Both for herself and others, Muriel’s search for new and interesting things never stops—whether it’s finding that perfect unknown hotel or the best cervicheria.  As more of the world makes itself accessible to travellers, Muriel is determined to help others navigate the ever-richer and more complex choices.
